Senior Communication & Campaigns Officer

A fantastic job opportunity has arisen for a Senior Communication & Campaigns Officer to join one of our largest Local Authority clients in a temporary assignment for initially 3 months (with every possibility of extension depending on performance).

Based in South West London, this is a full time role (36 hours per week, Monday to Friday).

Purpose of the job:

The council is launching its new wheelie bin fortnightly collection service. Clear and timely communications will be at the heart of the success of this major service change. They are looking for an exceptional candidate to drive and deliver the communications in the lead up to and post the launch of the service change.

Main responsibilities include but not limited to:

Advising

Activity support and advise senior members, officers and managers in all matters relating to internal, media and marketing communications. Responsible for advising senior members and directors about how to communicate complex and sensitive issues relating to a wide range of council services which will impact on council reputation.

Planning .

To be responsible for developing processes and procedures to ensure continuous improvement to the media relations, internal communications and marketing services at the council and to have overall responsibility for these areas. Pre-plan publicity using the communications planning grid to promote new initiatives and services, which positively enhance the council's image.

Relationship building

To initiate, develop and maintain, strong and positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders across the councils department including directors, senior managers, officers, the leader, cabinet and members plus community partners and contractors, Government bodies as well as key media representatives to secure positive media coverage and swiftly rebut inaccurate articles or comment.

Evaluation

Ensure all opportunities are taken to actively publicise the London Borough of Merton and that all PR and communications activity is measured to its demonstrate effectiveness using cost effective evaluation methods

Campaigns

Be responsible for the development and delivery of the council's gold campaigns as well as supporting departments to deliver any silver and bronze campaigns as part of the council's annual communications plan.

Social Media

To be responsible for the council's social media platforms, primarily Twitter and Facebook using Hootsuite using them as key channels to promote the council's gold campaigns as well as flagging issues with the relevant departments as they arise.

Publications

To be responsible for the production and distribution of Merton's key publications, My Merton, staff magazine, A-Z and council tax booklet, as well as other publications that may be required from time to time. Additional duties may include editing, briefing contributors about agreed stories, chairing the My Merton Board and liaising with the designers and distributors to ensure smooth production and distribution of each edition, as agreed with the Head of Communications.
