Media & Communication Advisor

A fantastic job opportunity has arisen for a Media & Communication Advisor to join one of our largest Local Authority clients in a temporary assignment for 3 month initially (with every possibility of an extension should the successful candidate perform well).

Based in South East London, this is a full time role (36 hours per week, Monday to Friday).

Main purpose of the job

To lead a media relations service for the Council and to develop and lead planned and responsive integrated communications projects to inform and engage with the aim of encouraging relationships of mutual understanding, trust and goodwill between the Council and its key audiences and stakeholders.

Summary of responsibilities and personal duties

Media relations

1.Manage the provision of a high quality and effective proactive and reactive media relations service for the Council covering both online and offline media outlets.

2.Identify and pursue opportunities for proactive media activity, selling in stories, arranging interviews and managing filming and interviews, focusing on the media that has most impact with local people.

3.Analyse media coverage and other feedback, including online posts, to advise officers and members on future communications activity.

4.Manage the provision of a news monitoring and alert system for councillors and senior officers.

5.Develop and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of journalists.

6.Manage the input, maintenance and interrogation of information on the Council's news management database, ensuring all enquiries and statements are logged.

Provide media and communications advice

7.Advise senior managers and councillors on media and issue management.

8.Attend management meetings, cabinet member liaison and other high-level meetings in order to offer advice and to agree communication activities.

9.Develop and maintain positive working relationships with officers, members and external organisations.

Develop, project manage and implement integrated communications plans

10.Work with executive directors, service managers and councillors to develop and agree communication plans to deliver agreed objectives within the framework of the corporate communications strategy.
11.Develop, lead the implementation of, and evaluate communications plans, working other communication team colleagues, key directorate staff and external partners as appropriate.

12.Manage project work to ensure it is carried out to agreed budgets and delivers value for money.
