Overview of Role:

Responsible for the coordination and provision of pension and payroll statutory returns, data transfers and responses to external surveys such as the Gender Pay Gap reporting

Represent company service at local, regional and national payroll and pension meetings. Maintaining an awareness of changes and ensure associated actions are completed.

Monitor the performance of payroll providers and pension administrators reviewing KPIs and working together to develop the service provided to employees.

Quality assure pension and pay data and payroll deductions investigating discrepancies and ensuring the organisations comply with regulations and pay rules. Working with the relevant provider to correct errors and improve accuracy.

Maintain an awareness of pension and payroll changes ensuring the changes are implemented correctly, providing advice to the organisations and developing communication to employees. Take a lead as investigating manager for pension related grievances and monitor the completion of Internal dispute resolution procedure (IRDP) cases for both Police and Fire.

Review and develop processes working with the relevant providers to ensure compliance to pay and pension regulations and to implement improvements identified.

Act as the organisations liaison with external audit / HMRC on required audits on payroll.

Experience and Qualifications


Educated to level 5 in a business or a payroll related subject or equivalent relevant experience.

Chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals

Hold a payroll qualification or be willing to undertake payroll training.


Significant payroll and pension experience

Significant experience of working in a large company environment and be used to periods of significant change

Significant experience of working within complex regulatory frameworks

Significant experience of mapping business processes to ensure efficiency's within service provision

Significant experience of holding service providers to account using SLAs and KPIs.

Significant experience of using and interrogating staff record, pension and payroll systems.
