A fantastic opportunity has emerged for a specialist Homelessness Suitability Assessment Officer decision making officer to join one of our key London based Local Authorities in a temporary role for the next three months.

The main role of the post holder is to carry out suitability and affordability assessments in the Housing Needs Service to determine the suitability of accommodation provided to homeless households, and make specific recommendations in accordance with the council's accommodation offer policy so that any future accommodation that may be offered to homeless households meet their needs.

Your duties will include:
*Carrying out review of Temporary Accommodation
*Interviewing and looking at the needs of homeless people placed out of borough
*Handling complaint as to the distance of placements.
*Dealing with the travel to work and the distance to the children to the schools, also taking into account any medical problems that the assessing applicants may have.
*Liaising with all the necessary department concern to achieve the best results for applicants
* Having knowledge of or experience in housing benefits calculations, affordability assessments and preferably homelessness suitability reviews.
*Taking responsibility to holistically assess customers' circumstances by conducting interviews, undertaking visits to customers in their homes when appropriate, conducting enquiries and collecting information, to be able to verify their circumstances, so that a full suitability assessment can be conducted, taking into account all circumstances and needs of homeless households.

You should have a basic understanding of homelessness legislation, discharging homelessness duty through a private rented sector offer, the Homelessness (Suitability of Accommodation) (England) Order 2012 , the relevant sections of the Homelessness Code of Guidance, and other relevant legislation.

Strong interviewing and communication skills, both verbal and in writing are very important requirements for this post. Good investigation skills are also needed as the successful candidate will be needed to contact other agencies such as the Home Office, Hospitals and Solicitors.

Good IT skills and the ability to learn quickly are important too as this service is now operating a paperless system.
