There is an opportunity for Housing Options Officers in East London.

The duration of the role is for 6months but can be extended based on how you perform.

The main responsibilities:

The Housing Options Officers are responsible for preventing homelessness, relieving homelessness and investigating and assessing the client's duties to customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness under its statutory duties.
The client wants someone who has previously done this role and has all the knowledge of the legislations that accompanies the role.

*Assesses applications under the Housing Act 1996 (as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002) to determine what duty, if any is owed and recommending to the Housing Choices Team Leader that where a duty is owed it is fulfilled or discharged correctly. Ensure that all applicants are notified in writing of any decision which is made.

*To maintain an understanding of Housing Act 1996 Part VI and the Council's allocations policy in order to advise service users of their priority for an offer of social housing.

*To respond to telephone calls and correspondence from or on behalf of applicants, and prepare responses to members enquiries as and when required, within the prescribed time-scale, and in accordance with the prescribed procedure. Assist the corporate complaints team by providing the necessary information to enable them to deal with complaints, Members enquiries and customer complaints within the prescribed timescales.

*Applying the Housing Act 1996 Part VII, the Homelessness Act 2002, the Localism Act 2011 and related legislation is desirable, full training will be provided to the right candidate who can demonstrate the qualities and skills required for this role.

*To maintain an understanding of Housing Act 1996 Part VI and the Client's allocations policy in order to advise service users of their priority for an offer of social housing.

*To carry out any other duties on similar grade as required from any office location within the borough, that is in line with the purpose of managing homelessness, to ensure that service delivery is maintained, complying with the Council's equal opportunities policy and upholding the highest standards of behaviour at all times.
