About us

The NHS holds a data set on health and care which is unparalleled anywhere else in the world. Over the last thirty years, an increasing number of health records have been digitised. Personal health data is extremely sensitive, and its handling is rightly subject to extensive data protection and privacy legislation and Health and Social Care Acts.

We have seen an explosion in technology products and services for processing large quantities of data in increasingly sophisticated ways, enabling the generation of transformational new insights from this data. Huge, complex and extremely rich new data sets are emerging from the fields of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and microbiomics. Whilst advanced analytics, machine learning and AI will all have an increasing role to play in managing the system's data, much value is also derived from rich data visualisation and deployment of business intelligence systems to enable detailed, real-time MI to be delivered to users.
