Lead JavaScript Developer

Our Oxfordshire based client - well known global brand name - wishes to appoint a proven 'Lead JavaScript (full stack) Developer'. Working as part of a large IT dept alongside other web/digital development specialists you will focus on the development of 'subscription based platforms' that our client sells to its global customer community.

Key Deliverables
You will be responsible for delivering a range of full life cycle software/product development tasks including;
- Writing well designed, testable, efficient code;
- Helping to integrate new software components and features into the existing systems and products, many of which may already be in use (subscribed to) by our clients global customer community;
- Writing and maintaining development documentation (using confluence);
- Performing functional and non-functional unit and component testing;
- Actively communicating with the business in order to drive and address 'questions' regarding existing products until fully clarified and resolved;
- Supporting new code deployment to enable efficient and accurate implementations of new features to take place.

Technical Skills
To secure this position your technical skills must include;
- Previous experience of working in an Agile environment (important);
- JavaScript full stack (server & client side) development experience, up to ES6;
- In depth understanding of HTTP protocol (including http proxying in a Node.JS context);
- Extensive experience of working with and building Node.JS applications;
- Experience of building responsive web sites and applications using Bootstrap or similar frameworks;
- Practical experience of other JavaScript frameworks such as Angular, REACT, EXPRESS and/or JQuery;
- Experience of creating and consuming web-services (REST/SOAP);
- Source control knowledge, particularly SVN and GIT;
- Mongo db and Mongoose;
- Distributed caching (Redis / Memcache);
- Bash/shell scripting experience.

Nice to have / to your advantage include;
- Working with applications in a cloud based environment (preferably AWS);
- Knowledge of continuous integration tools such as Jenkins;
- Prior experience of KeystoneJS (CMS platform);
- Docker application containerisation;
- AWS Elastic Beanstalk.

Demonstrable experience of working in Agile or SAFe (Scaled Agile) development environments will be strongly to your advantage.

Personality & Soft Skills;
In many ways these are equally importance to our client to support your technical capabilities; you will need to be a communicative person who likes to share expertise and ideas and willing to provide technical advice and guidance to others who may be less experienced. You will enjoy owning your work without the need for guidance and producing high quality end product. You'll be a curious person who keeps abreast of new technologies and is willing to suggest new and more efficient /innovative ways of working that may enhance or improve existing product offerings.

Sector Experience / Background
Our client strongly favours individuals who have diverse career backgrounds, who ideally have worked within large scale private AND public sector organisations. Experience of working in large internet/new media/agency, education related and/or publishing companies will also be to your advantage.

In summary, a proven JavaScript full stack developer, most likely with at least 5 years commercial experience who has developed using many (but perhaps not all) of the above technical skills is what is needed to secure this position.

Day rate displayed above is suggestion only - both we as the agency and the client can be flexible within reason in order to secure the best equipped person for this post.
